HP Mini computers have a four (4) conductor mini plug which is not compatible with standard external microphones.

To use an external microphone with the HP Mini computers, this 4 Conductor to Mono Cable Adapter is required.

To use an external microphone, plug this adapter into your computer and plug in any 2 conductor mono microphone into the other end and record using the external microphone.  To play back, unplug the adapter and either use the internal speakers or insert any external stereo plug.  The standard 3 stereo conductor plugs will work with the HP Jack, unfortunately the external microphone requires this special adapter.

This adapter is also RoHS compliant and sells for $18.95 postage paid.
